Bristle firmness: soft.

Rinse thoroughly after each use. Air-dry — bamboo is naturally antimicrobial, but only if it dries between brushings.

Replace every three months per dentist recommendation, or sooner if the bristles splay.

At end of life: snip the bristle head off with kitchen shears and put it in the trash (nylon doesn't compost). The bamboo handle composts, or upcycles as a plant marker in the garden.

BEST AVAILABLE — THE EXCEPTION

This one is Best Available because the bristles are nylon-11 — bio-based, from castor oil, but still nylon, still plastic. A child brushes twice a day with the head in direct mouth contact; the nylon exception matters just as much for a kid's mouth as for an adult's.

The bristle color is food-grade dye — the same category of colorant used in candy and drinks. Safe if a small child chews on the bristles.

Non-nylon bristles exist: boar bristle and horse hair pass The Standard on the plastic question. But they're too stiff for children's mouths, so they're not a practical alternative for a kid. That's the specific reason we accept Best Available in this category — the fully-passing option isn't kid-appropriate.

For this brush to pass The Standard, plant-based or non-nylon synthetic bristles in a soft firmness would need to become widely available. They don't yet.

We'll switch the moment a fully passing version exists.

CHILDREN'S PRODUCT NOTES

No BPA, no phthalates, no formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, no lead pigments.

WHAT PASSES

The bamboo handle, the packaging, and everything except the bristle head. The turtle or whale etching lets a child pick out their own brush and helps a household with siblings avoid mix-ups.
