Bamboo Charcoal Toothbrush Set

Sale price$12.00

A set of bamboo toothbrushes with charcoal-infused bristles — the shape etched into each handle lets everyone in the house color their own so nobody grabs the wrong one. Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial, which matters when a toothbrush lives on the sink between uses. The bristles are nylon-11, made from castor oil — bio-based, but still nylon, still plastic in mouth contact. We call it Best Available: boar and horse bristle brushes fully pass The Standard, but not everyone accepts animal bristles. This is the best available if you don't. Available in sets of 3 or 4. Kraft paper packaging.

Made by Me Mother Earth in China.

Rinse each brush thoroughly after use. Air-dry — bamboo is naturally antimicrobial, but only if it gets to dry out between brushings.

Replace every three months per dentist recommendation, or sooner if bristles splay.

At end of life: snip each bristle head off with kitchen shears and put it in the trash (nylon doesn't compost). The bamboo handles compost, or upcycle as plant markers in the garden.

BEST AVAILABLE — THE EXCEPTION

These are Best Available because the bristles are nylon-11 — bio-based, from castor oil, but still nylon, still plastic. The bamboo handles take plastic out of everything except the bristle heads, but each head sits in direct mouth contact for two minutes twice a day. That's the exception.

Non-nylon alternatives exist: boar bristle and horse hair pass The Standard fully. If you accept animal-derived bristles, that's the version to reach for. These are for you if you don't.

For these brushes to pass The Standard, plant-based or non-nylon synthetic bristles would need to become widely available and actually match nylon on performance. They don't yet.

We'll switch the moment a fully passing version exists.

WHAT PASSES

The handles are bamboo. The packaging is kraft paper. Only the bristles are the compromise — and at end of life you can snip each bristle head off and compost the rest.
