Wet the brush, rub it across the soap bar to load the bristles with lather, and scrub. Rinse the dishes and the brush.

Between uses, set the soap bar on the slatted dish so it drains and dries — a wet bar left in a puddle dissolves fast; a drained one lasts much longer.

When the soap runs out or the brush wears down, buy just that piece as a refill and keep the rest.

We looked hard at ways to wash dishes. Most came as liquid in a plastic bottle, or as a brush with a plastic handle and nylon bristles. Only a few passed.

This one: a coconut soap bar, a slatted pine dish, and a sisal brush — no plastic in any of the three.

Passes The Standard. All three pieces are plant-based, and nothing plastic touches your dishes or your hands.

The soap is two ingredients — saponified coconut oil and glycerin. The glycerin is left in, where most commercial soap strips it out to sell separately; that's what keeps the bar from drying your hands. It's made with EPA Safer Choice ingredients, a screen stricter than our own reject list.

The dish is pine with drainage cutouts and a carbonized surface — the dark "charcoal-burned" texture is made by charring the wood with heat, not by any coating or stain. No lacquer, no synthetic sealant. The cutouts let the bar drain so it dries between uses and lasts longer.

The brush handle is "rubber wood." That's not rubber or latex — it's the timber of the rubber tree, used for furniture and utensils after the tree finishes its latex-producing years, so there's no latex allergen in the finished wood. The bristles are sisal, a stiff plant fiber from the agave family.

PLASTIC PACKAGING REMOVED

The pieces arrive at our warehouse in plastic protective wrap from the suppliers. We remove it and repackage in kraft paper before shipping to you. The set itself contains no plastic.
